The last four months I’ve been the captain of a team at my tennis club. We played twelve matches, made it to the Finals, and won!
I started playing tennis a few years ago. The last two years I’ve been playing in regular clinics and taking private lessons. Last year I started playing on a team. I never thought I would learn a sport as an adult. During Covid gyms were closed and I couldn’t see my friends so we started playing tennis with masks to hang out with each other. I’m not competitive so I never thought I would play on a team. And I definitely never considered being a captain!
I learned a lot about myself in this whole experience. I learned tennis is an activity I really enjoy learning and playing with my friends. I learned being a captain was hard because tennis is something I selfishly do for myself which made supporting a whole team challenging, so I don’t know if I’ll captain again. I learned I am way too hard on myself, and I need to team myself like I treat my best friends. I also learned I like to win!
