It was so nice to be away. It had been 2 years since we left the Northeast because of Covid. Definitely felt out of practice packing and traveling for a “flying” vacation. And definitely anxious being on an airplane and going to a tourist destination. But it was completely worth the physical and emotional effort. After many years of snow school on the tiny East Coast mountains, my daughters were finally ready to snowboard on a big West Coast mountain. We went to Park City Mountain Resort, UT, and spent a week riding fresh powder.
We all snowboard. You don’t see many families of all snowboarders. I love it. When the girls were little, we gave them the option to learn to ski or snowboard. Big O started skiing and then switched to snowboarding after a couple years. Little I only wanted to snowboard. As the girls get older, they don’t need me to physically take care of them anymore giving them baths, feeding them, etc, so I have to find other ways to spend time with them. Snowboarding is one of them.
We stayed at the Sundial Lodge, a ski-in-ski-out property at the base of the mountain in Canyons Village. The location was perfect and made getting on and off the mountain so easy. We walked out our rental property and onto the gondola line in 10 minutes. I’ve started to only book properties on the mountain to make the already complex process of putting all your layers, carrying your gear, remembering tissues and lift pass, a little bit easier by eliminating driving and parking at the mountain.
I find rental properties with a full kitchen so I can make simple breakfast and most dinners. It’s more relaxing to eat breakfast at home while getting ready and stay in for dinner and take our time in the outdoor pool, shower, and then play games and watch a movie. One day is always breakfast of champions, crispy potatoes, sugar-free bacon, sauteed spinach.
Snowed every day so the trees were always snow capped. It was beautiful.
We rode gondolas.
We rode chairlifts.
We rode the orange bubble lift, a chairlift with an orange shield.
We saw moose on the chairlift.
We were surrounded by beautiful mountains.
The girls tried the terrain park for the first time and had so much fun! They were inspired watching Chloe Kim in the Olympics.
Big O dropping in.
Little I getting some air.
Even Grouchy Husband gave it a try.
We saw ice statues.
The girls swam in the heated outdoor pool surrounded by snow-covered beach chairs
Ended the day with home-cooked simple dinners like this Pork and Napa Cabbage Soup from nom nom paleo.
Looking forward to our next travel adventure,
Chrissy xo
